Belmont County Rescue Seeking Foster Homes for Six Abandoned Dogs

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A Belmont County animal rescue is asking the community for help finding experienced foster homes for six dogs rescued from an abandoned home.

Belmont County Hoof and Paw recently took in six unsocialized dogs believed to be Belgian Malinois-Husky mixes, often referred to as “Beluskies.” According to the rescue, the dogs were found abandoned inside a home in Powhatan and have had little to no positive interaction with people.

Because of their lack of socialization and the characteristics of the breed mix, the dogs will require experienced handlers who can provide behavioral training and rehabilitation.

The organization is specifically seeking foster homes without small dogs or cats until each animal’s behavior can be fully evaluated. Foster volunteers should also have experience working with high-energy breeds such as Belgian Malinois or Huskies and be able to provide a secure environment, whether through a properly enclosed kennel or inside the home.

Rescue officials say some of the dogs are calmer than others, while several will require more time and patience as they adjust to human interaction.

Belmont County Hoof and Paw said its kennels are currently full, leaving the dogs temporarily housed at the property where they were found while they continue receiving food and water.

Anyone interested in fostering or learning more about the dogs is encouraged to contact Belmont County Hoof and Paw at (610) 314-5203.
