MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Emergency crews responded late Thursday night after a boat caught fire along the Ohio River near Moundsville.
The fire was initially reported around 10:51 p.m. near Riverfront Park. However, responding officers were unable to locate the vessel at that location and later spotted it farther north along the river.
Police and firefighters made their way to the 10th Street dock in an effort to access the burning boat as it continued drifting north. Emergency crews searched for the best point to reach the vessel while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
Radio traffic indicated investigators identified a person of interest in connection with the fire. However, authorities have not publicly released any names or announced any criminal charges.
During the response, officers requested that the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office be contacted to arrange for an arson investigator to assist with the investigation. Responders also requested an evidence bag as crews processed the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported. River News will provide additional information as it becomes available.
