NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School has broken ground on a new fieldhouse and community center designed to provide additional space for student athletics and community events.

School officials marked the start of the privately funded project Thursday.

Plans for the facility include a gymnasium, weight room, exercise area, concessions and restrooms. In addition to serving students, the building is expected to provide space for parish and community activities.

The new fieldhouse will also help alleviate scheduling challenges created by the school’s existing gym space. With multiple athletic teams currently sharing one gym, school leaders say the additional facility will allow students to practice more frequently and at more convenient times.

Project architect Nick Davis said the development has also created a strong connection among those involved in bringing the facility to life.

Construction is expected to take approximately 16 to 18 months.

School officials hope the new facility will be ready for students to use during the 2027 winter sports season.
