One Person Found Dead Following Tragic Early Morning House Fire in Guernsey County

FAIRVIEW, Ohio — One person was reportedly found deceased following an early morning house fire Thursday on Cater Hill Road in the Fairview area of Guernsey County.

According to initial emergency radio traffic, the fire was reported around 4:06 a.m. on October 8. The caller reported a structure fire but was unsure whether anyone was inside the residence. A vehicle was reportedly parked in the driveway.

Fire departments from Fairview, Quaker City, Antrim and Old Washington were dispatched. Additional assistance, including a tanker from Barnesville, was requested.

By approximately 4:15 a.m., firefighters arriving at the scene reported that the home had been destroyed by the fire. Responders also confirmed that a vehicle known to be driven by the resident was parked outside.

Crews requested the State Fire Marshal’s Office as they worked to manage the scene and establish a water supply. Multiple departments assisted with tanker operations throughout the morning.

Emergency radio traffic indicated that firefighters continued working at the property for several hours, with some tankers being released around 8:14 a.m.

A subsequent report indicated that one person was found deceased inside the home. The individual’s identity has not been released in the information available.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death have not been confirmed.
