TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio — Two women from Uhrichsville, identified as a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, died Sunday evening, October 4, after becoming trapped between two pickup trucks in a parking lot near the Atwood Area Fall Festival.
The incident occurred at the Atwood Dari Bar along State Route 212, where the women had reportedly stopped after working as vendors at the nearby fall festival.
According to information attributed to investigators, surveillance footage showed one pickup truck entering the parking lot after possibly experiencing a mechanical issue. A second pickup truck arrived behind the first vehicle.
Investigators believe the second truck was left running and had not been fully placed in park when it moved forward, pinning both women between the vehicles.
Authorities believe the women may have remained trapped for approximately two hours before a passerby discovered them around 9:30 p.m.
Emergency responders transported both women to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The victims’ names were not included in the initial information provided. The circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s movement remain under investigation.
The tragedy has left two members of the same family dead following what had been a day spent participating in a community fall festival.
River News extends its condolences to the victims’ families, friends and loved ones.
