WHEELING, W.Va. – Wheeling Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a series of overnight incidents.
Louis David Smith III, 43, of Wheeling, is charged with attempted robbery, attempted burglary, and third-offense domestic battery — all felonies.
At approximately 1:52 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to 19th Street, where a woman reported that, moments earlier on Peninsula Street, Smith was standing in the roadway and attempted to assault her and steal her vehicle. She was able to flee and contact authorities.
A short time later, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of McColloch Street in East Wheeling for a report of a burglary in progress. Residents at the scene, along with the earlier victim, provided a description of the suspect.
Soon after, police received another call regarding a disorderly man on Lind Street who matched the suspect’s description. Officers responded and took Smith into custody.
Smith was transported to the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville. A court arraignment is pending.
