WHEELING, W.Va. – Tipping Point Real Estate Development reported more big strides in their work on the future Wheeling Gateway Heritage Center.
Week 9 of the demolition of the former Wheeling Inn was a truly special one for the crew, project team and community, as a completely unobstructed view of the Historic Suspension Bridge was revealed.
Before Raze began infilling the old foundation, the project team paused to take in a unique perspective of the Ohio Valley. From this vantage point, the bridge loomed large in the foreground, offering an impressive view that hasn’t been appreciated in decades.
The moment was short-lived as Raze crews turned their attention to preparing the former Wheeling Inn’s slab-on-grade foundation. Drainage penetrations were created to ensure proper moisture flow, and the infill will be compacted in multiple layers to meet specifications set by architects, engineers, and environmental consultants.
Over the next week, passersby will see debris piles steadily diminish as Raze pushes forward through cold weather, rain, and snow to complete the foundation infill.
