Local bus service going cashless

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – Steel Valley Rapid Transit Authority, which serves passengers in the Jefferson County area, plans to move to a cashless fare system.

The transit agency says new fareboxes will either scan a QR code from a phone
or verify a credit-card like pass. Fares will remain at 50 cents a ride.

SVRTA also plans to add new buses to its service fleet by July.
