Steubenville Police Department seeks candidates to add to the force

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — The Steubenville Police Department is actively seeking qualified candidates for positions as communications officers and patrol officers.

Applicants who are certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) can apply either online or in person. Those who are not yet OPOTA-certified can obtain applications from the city’s Civil Service Commission or download them online.

All applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on May 9, and mailed submissions must be postmarked no later than May 6.

All candidates are required to take the civil service examination, scheduled for May 17 at 10 a.m. in the Pugliese Conference Room at City Hall.

For those applying for the patrol officer position, a physical agility test will be administered the same day at 12:30 p.m. at the Harding Stadium practice field. Applicants must be at least 21 years old to qualify. The upper age limit is 35, unless the applicant is already OPOTA certified — in which case there is no age restriction.

Candidates must pass both the written exam and meet OPOTA’s minimum physical standards in order to move forward in the hiring process. Those who pass will then be eligible to attend the state police academy with tuition costs covered by the city.

For more information, interested individuals can contact the department at (740) 283-6000 or by email at police@cityofsteubenville.us
