Father Dead, Son Injured in Marshall County, West Virginia Shooting

CAMERON, W.Va. — A shooting incident in Marshall County left one man dead and another hospitalized on Friday night.

According to authorities, Cameron Police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Dragon Highway around 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, Police Chief Shawn Allman discovered Brian Clifford Elerick suffering from a gunshot wound and began administering first aid.

While providing aid, Chief Allman reportedly heard another gunshot from within the house.

Marshall County’s Special Response Team was called in to secure the scene. Inside the residence, officers found 67-year-old Daniel Paul Murphy, Elerick’s father, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Elerick was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Marshall County Sheriff Mike Dougherty confirmed that his condition has since improved to stable.

Sheriff Dougherty also urged the public to respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time, calling the event a “tragic situation.”

The investigation is ongoing.
