Weirton Police Warn Residents About Gold Purchase Scam

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weirton Police are warning residents about a new scam targeting individuals through gold purchases.

Scammers are reportedly impersonating federal officers, telling victims they must withdraw cash from their bank accounts to buy gold. The scammers claim this will protect the victims’ money, but then arrange for another person to come by, pick up the gold and steal it.

Police urge residents to be cautious of unsolicited calls or instructions to buy gold and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
