COLUMBUS — A former Belmont County coroner was sentenced to federal prison April 14 after pleading guilty to health care fraud.
Dr. Troy Balgo received a sentence of one year and one day in federal court in Columbus on two counts of health care fraud. He was also ordered to pay more than $1.3 million in restitution and serve one year of supervised release following his prison term.
Balgo pleaded guilty in 2025 as part of a plea agreement. Balgo was arrested in 2019 on charges of unlawfully dispensing opioids.
