MONROE COUNTY, Ohio — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to remain alert after receiving reports of a phone scam involving callers pretending to be law enforcement officials.
Authorities say scammers are using caller ID spoofing technology, allowing phone numbers to appear as local businesses, government offices or other trusted sources.
Investigators warn that the callers attempt to gain a person’s trust before requesting sensitive personal information, financial details or money.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that residents should never provide Social Security numbers, bank account information, passwords or other personal data during unexpected phone calls.
Officials recommend hanging up immediately if a call seems suspicious and contacting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office directly to verify any claims.
Law enforcement continues to encourage residents to stay vigilant and report suspected scam attempts to help prevent others from becoming victims.
