WHEELING, W.Va. – In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Wheeling Police Department’s Victim Advocacy Program is partnering with Harmony House to host a family-friendly “Stroller Walk” on Sunday, April 27, at Wheeling Park’s Good Lake located at 1801 National Road in Wheeling.
The free event, running from 1 to 3 p.m., will feature a scenic walk around the lake beginning at 2 p.m. Organizers are encouraging participants to wear blue—the official color of child abuse prevention—and to decorate their strollers as a show of solidarity. Those without strollers are also welcome to join the walk in support of the cause.
“We invite the community to come together for a relaxed and meaningful day to help raise awareness about child abuse prevention,” said Samantha Baker of the Wheeling Police Department.
Katie Banal from Harmony House is also excited about the event. ” We encourage people to show up and participate in the walk to support the children in our community and to remind people that children deserve to live happy, healthy lives free of abuse.”
Beyond the walk itself, the afternoon will include a variety of activities for attendees of all ages. Highlights include children’s games, snacks, and a contest for the best-decorated stroller, with the winner receiving a special gift basket. Families can also take the opportunity to connect with local agencies that will be on-site to provide information on resources and services for children and families in need.
