She quit! St. Clairsville City Council member resigns over dispute on employee raises

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – Holly West officially resigned from her position on St. Clairsville City Council effective immediately, citing concerns that her voice was not being heard on key issues, particularly regarding a proposal for non-union city employee raises.

The city released a terse statement saying West’s position as council member at-large was now open.

According to reports, West, who was sworn in on January 2, expressed frustration over the council’s recent handling of a proposed raise for non-union workers. Initially, Mayor Kathryn Thalman suggested a 4% raise. However, a new piece of legislation proposed a reduced 2% raise. West strongly opposed the change, arguing that non-union city employees deserved the original 4% increase.

The city council has 30 days to select a replacement, or the mayor will make the appointment. Candidates must have been residents of St. Clairsville for at least two years and be registered voters. Applications are due by April 9.

For more information, residents can contact the city at via their website or by phoning (740) 695-1324.
