COLUMBUS, Ohio —Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel announced that the eighth annual In-Demand Jobs Week will take place May 5th to May 9th.
In-Demand Jobs Week is the statewide celebration of Ohio’s top jobs, industries, and skills. This year’s theme is “Get in the Game – Take Charge of Our Future,” which emphasizes taking an active role in career exploration, skill-building, and connecting with employers to secure the jobs of tomorrow.
“Whether you are preparing for your first job, exploring a career change, or looking to advance in your field, there are countless opportunities in The Heart of It All,” said Governor DeWine. “This In-Demand Jobs Week, I encourage schools, businesses, and community organizations to get involved – host a job event in your region to let our workforce of the future know about all of the options at their fingertips in Ohio.”
Thanks to the state’s targeted work to attract economic development projects into local communities, Ohio has added more than 81,000 private sector jobs in the past six years. Further, at least 15,000 additional jobs are coming to Ohio through projects that are currently in development.
To ensure the state’s workforce is trained and ready to fill these jobs, Governor DeWine announced in his recent State of the State Address that Lt. Governor Tressel would lead the administration’s effort to create Ohio’s Workforce Playbook. As part of this work, Lt. Governor Tressel has traveled across Ohio, hosting a series of roundtable discussions with local business and education leaders to identify in-demand job opportunities in each region.
“We have so many wonderful opportunities coming our way in Ohio. In-Demand Jobs Week is a great time to inform and energize our workforce about all the job possibilities that are available in their region,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “Success starts with preparation, teamwork, and determination – whether on the field or in the workplace. In Ohio, we are building careers in industries that shape our future, from advanced manufacturing and healthcare to technology and skilled trades. Now is the time to get in the game and find your path.”
Currently, there are over 144,000 jobs posted on OhioMeansJobs.com and 92,000 pay over $50,000 per year. There are opportunities available right now across Ohio, and In-Demand Jobs Week is a chance to learn about the education and training available in every community, so more Ohioans can join the workforce and take charge of their future.
In-Demand Jobs Week highlights Ohio’s most in-demand and fastest-growing industries through hiring events, educational activities, and training opportunities across the state. Throughout the week, businesses, schools, and community organizations are encouraged to host events that showcase career opportunities in their regions. Past events have included job fairs, business tours, apprenticeship signings, hands-on workshops, and more.
