OVI checkpoint scheduled tonight in Belmont County

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced an OVI checkpoint tonight, Friday, August 15, on State Route 7 in Belmont County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, Bridgeport Police Department, and Martins Ferry Police Department, said Friday that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. tonight on State Route 7 at Aetna Street in Belmont County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grants, is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers. It will be conducted alongside nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.

Authorities urge drivers to plan ahead if they intend to consume alcohol. Use a designated driver or arrange alternate transportation — and don’t let another life be lost to the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel while impaired.
