Still Time to Sign: River News Collects 500 Local Signatures in Push to End Ohio Property Taxes

UPDATE: Aug. 27, 2025 2 p.m.

Ohio voters will decide in November 2026 whether to abolish property taxes through a citizen-led constitutional amendment. Brian Massie of the Committee to Abolish Ohio Property Taxes announced Wednesday that the group has met its petition signature goal to place the amendment before Ohio voters next year.

BELMONT & JEFFERSON COUNTIES, Ohio – Are you sick and tired of paying high property taxes in Ohio? There is still time to right this ship and take action!

River News has collected nearly 500 signatures so far this summer to add an amendment to Ohio’s constitution that could eliminate property taxes altogether. River News partnered with Ax OH Tax at the end of June to set up local petition signing stations for this grassroots movement.

With this strong response, it is very likely that the amendment will be placed on the ballot in November 2026.

But we still need your help to take this property tax issue to the people, so consider signing the petition to make your voice heard!

Petition signing times are 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at two River News studio locations in Bellaire & Steubenville.  The Belmont County location is Big Willie/WOMP studios at 56325 High Ridge Rd., Bellaire.  The Jefferson County location is at The River Radio Studios located inside the Fort Steuben Mall from the Walmart entrance.

The campaign to eliminate property taxes is led by Ax Ohio Tax, https://axohtax.com/
