Ohio AG Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit Challenging Browns’ Suburban Move

CLEVELAND, OH — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is asking a court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the Cleveland Browns’ move from the city to the suburbs.

Yost argues that recent changes made by the Ohio General Assembly to the so-called “Modell Law” have rendered the lawsuit moot. The law, named after former Browns owner Art Modell, governs team relocation and stadium issues in Ohio.

According to Yost, the legislative updates alter the legal landscape, effectively eliminating the basis for the current lawsuit. Details of the specific changes were not disclosed in the attorney general’s filing, but Yost’s office emphasized that the amendments address the provisions under which the plaintiffs filed their case.

The lawsuit has drawn attention from city officials and fans concerned about the impact of the Browns’ move on Cleveland’s economy and community identity. Court action on Yost’s motion is expected in the coming weeks.
