Brooke County Health Officials Urge Rabies Vaccinations After Positive Test in Bethany

BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. – Brooke County health officials are urging pet owners to ensure their animals are up to date on rabies vaccinations after a raccoon found in the Castleman’s Road area of Bethany tested positive for the virus.

The raccoon was discovered near the Ohio County line, according to health officials. They emphasize that rabies is a serious and potentially fatal disease that can spread to humans and animals through bites or scratches from infected wildlife.

Residents are encouraged to avoid contact with stray or wild animals and to report any unusual animal behavior to local authorities.
