MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. – A pair of Marshall County educators must answer felony charges concerning abuse of an autistic child.
Those charges come from a West Virginia State Police investigation of an
incident at McNinch Elementary School on September 18th.
Special needs teacher Kiersten Nicole Moses stands accused of grabbing a non-verbal six-year-old autistic child by the neck… then using both hands to squeeze the student.
Erin Michelle Cuffaro, Marshall County Special Programs Director, stands accused of felony charges of child neglect resulting in injury. The school principal has to answer a misdemeanor charge of failure to report the incident.
In a statement to reporters, Marshall County Schools Superintendent Shelby Haines
says the district’s top priority is educating students… adding the district has and will
fully cooperate with law enforcement, the West Virginia Department of Education, and
legal counsel.
