MARTINS FERRY, Ohio – Martins Ferry Police say an attempted fraud was thwarted after someone tried to pass off paper resembling real cash at a local business.
According to police, the incident occurred at a Dollar Tree store, where a clerk noticed a suspicious bill during a transaction. The paper was clearly marked “Motion Picture Use Only,” indicating it was not legal tender.
The clerk alerted police, preventing the transaction from being completed. Officers responded and are investigating the incident.
Police are reminding area businesses to carefully check currency and report any suspected counterfeit or fraudulent bills immediately.
