Routine business across the Ohio Valley has largely shut down today following a powerful winter storm that dumped heavy snow across the region.
Observers in some locations reported to the National Weather Service that more than a foot of snow had fallen by late Sunday afternoon. The accumulation prompted widespread closures of local and state offices, though essential services remain operational.
State departments of transportation are urging residents to stay home unless travel is absolutely necessary. Officials say road crews need space to safely and effectively clear highways and secondary roads, particularly in areas that received more than a foot of snow.
