One Dead in Ohio County Trailer Fire; Investigation Underway

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. — One person was found dead following a trailer fire Thursday evening in a remote area of Ohio County, according to the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say a 911 call reporting a trailer fire with possible entrapment came in shortly before 5 p.m. Jan. 29 along Wildlife Road, near the borders of Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Marshall County, West Virginia.

First responders arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. Family members at the scene reported a relative was believed to be trapped inside, but intense heat and smoke prevented rescue efforts until firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control.

Multiple agencies responded, including Valley Grove, Dallas, Triadelphia and West Alexander fire departments, along with Ohio County EMS and the Ohio County Emergency Management Agency.

After the fire was suppressed, crews located a deceased person inside the structure. Authorities say they believe they know the victim’s identity, but formal confirmation is pending.

The investigation has been turned over to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office and the state Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials say no further information is expected unless investigators uncover new details.
