Speiro Academy Set to Finalize Purchase of Former St. John Central Building

BELLAIRE, Ohio — Speiro Academy is on the verge of acquiring the former St. John Central Academy building on Guernsey Street, with the sale expected to close Monday.

The deal covers the main academy building only. Speiro Academy will
not purchase the adjacent former middle and elementary schools.

School officials say the move is driven by the need for more space as enrollment has continued to climb. The St. John Central building closed last June.

Founded in 2001, Speiro Academy has grown considerably since its early days operating out of a single classroom in a barn. The school later relocated to the North School in Martins Ferry before outgrowing that facility as well.

Leaders say the Bellaire acquisition will allow the school to better serve its growing student body with improved facilities.
