Bellaire Mayor Robert Dodrill to Undergo Triple Bypass Surgery, Take Temporary Leave

BELLAIRE, OHIO — Bellaire Mayor Robert P. Dodrill Sr. will temporarily step away from his official duties as he prepares to undergo triple bypass heart surgery in the coming weeks.

The announcement was made in an official statement released by the mayor’s office on Monday, October 19, 2026.

Dodrill was hospitalized last week and was unable to attend the October 15 Village Council meeting. Following his hospitalization, doctors determined that he would need open-heart surgery.

The mayor said the decision to take time away from his responsibilities was difficult but necessary as he focuses on his health and family.

“Being mayor of Bellaire is one of the greatest honors of my life, and I’ve poured my heart into it, maybe more than I should have,” Dodrill said in the statement.

He explained that his doctors have advised him to prioritize his health and that he wants to be there for his wife, Dena, and their three children, Robert, Austin and Sara.

Despite the upcoming surgery, Dodrill expressed confidence that he will eventually return to his position.

“I hate stepping away, even for a little while. But I’ll be back, and I’ll be stronger for it,” he said.

The mayor also thanked residents who have reached out with messages of encouragement, support and prayers for his family.

Village officials emphasized that government services and daily operations will continue in accordance with Ohio law during Dodrill’s absence.

No specific date has been announced for the surgery or the mayor’s return to office. His leave will allow time for both the procedure and his recovery.

Dodrill said he looks forward to resuming his duties as soon as his health allows.

The announcement comes as the village continues addressing several ongoing community projects and municipal matters. While the mayor is away, village operations are expected to continue without interruption.

River News extends its best wishes to Mayor Dodrill and his family as he prepares for surgery and recovery.
