A public interest group is moving forward in its effort to bring a major tax question before Ohio voters.
Ax Ohio Tax announced Thursday that it has collected approximately 305,000 signatures as part of its campaign to place a repeal of local property taxes on a future statewide ballot.
Organizers say they still need an additional 315,000 signatures to meet the requirement needed to qualify for a vote. The group has about ten weeks remaining to gather those signatures.
If successful, the measure would allow voters across Ohio to decide whether to abolish local property taxes, a move that could have significant implications for funding schools and local governments.
