WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling man who bludgeoned his wife to death then attempted to kill his father-in-law by leaving gas on in their home will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Dwayne Herring, 54, was sentenced Thursday following guilty pleas to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and attempted arson. Herring pleaded guilty last month to the murder of his wife, Kathleen, in a duplex on South Front Street on Wheeling Island in March 2025. He also pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his father-in-law.
Herring’s life sentence does have the possibility of parole.
