Marshall County Assessor’s Office Begins Property Inspections Across County

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. — The Marshall County Assessor’s Office is notifying residents that field deputies have officially begun state-mandated in-person property data collection inspections throughout the county.

According to Marshall County Assessor Amanda Lockhart, the inspections are required under West Virginia Code 11-3-2 and are part of a three-year review cycle used to gather, verify, and update property assessment records.

Officials say every parcel in Marshall County must be visited once every three years as part of the county’s assessment process. Both residential and commercial properties will be inspected in selected districts across the county.

The Assessor’s Office emphasized that deputies will attempt to notify residents before conducting any exterior inspections. All field deputies will carry visible identification badges and travel in marked assessor vehicles displaying red county license plates.

Residents are also being reminded that deputies do not need to enter homes during the inspection process.

If property owners are unavailable during an inspection, deputies may leave informational door hangers explaining the assessment process and highlighting available property tax discount opportunities.

Residential inspections are scheduled to take place in the Clay, Franklin, Liberty, Meade, Sandhill, and Webster districts. Commercial and exempt property inspections will also occur in several additional districts, including McMechen, Glendale, Wheeling-Sandhill, Benwood, and Cameron Corp.

The Marshall County Assessor’s Office says the inspections are part of ongoing efforts to maintain accurate and up-to-date property records throughout the county.

Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Marshall County Assessor’s Office at 304-845-1490.
