Ohio Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Fatalities Lowest in 18 Years

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says preliminary reports show six people were killed in traffic crashes during the Memorial Day holiday weekend — the lowest number recorded in 18 years.

According to OSP officials, a statewide enforcement initiative aimed at intercepting impaired drivers in the week leading up to the holiday weekend may have contributed to the reduced number of fatalities.

The patrol says troopers increased enforcement efforts ahead of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year in an effort to reduce impaired and dangerous driving across the state.
