OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. — Wheeling Park will once again host its annual “Salute to Patriotism” celebration over the Fourth of July weekend, with organizers expanding this year’s festivities as part of the nationwide America 250 celebration.
The three-day event is presented by the Wheeling Park Commission in partnership with Community Bank and is scheduled for July 3 through July 5.
The celebration begins Friday, July 3, with one of the region’s signature fireworks displays. Organizers say fireworks will launch from two separate locations within Wheeling Park, creating an enhanced viewing experience throughout the park.
Friday’s festivities will also feature skydivers, live music and a family-friendly foam party.
The celebration continues Saturday with the inaugural Firecracker 5K, followed by a poolside barbecue and additional activities for families.
On Sunday, the weekend concludes with an Americana-themed beach celebration featuring a hot dog eating contest and live entertainment from a Beach Boys tribute band.
Wheeling Park Commission President and CEO Bob Peckenpaugh said the annual celebration continues to grow thanks to community support.
He credited Community Bank and the Schenk Family Trust for helping make this year’s expanded America 250 celebration possible.
Organizers encourage families from across the Ohio Valley to attend the holiday weekend festivities, which offer entertainment, patriotic celebrations and activities for all ages.
