HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio – A 12-year-old girl was killed Saturday, Aug, 23 following a single-vehicle crash in Harrison County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident happened at 3:32 p.m. on Old Smyrna Road near State Route 800 in Freeport Township.
The 12-year-old female was driving a black 2016 Kawasaki Mule Pro westbound on the roadway when the side-by-side traveled off the left side of the road, striking a ditch. OHP says speed was a factor in the crash.
The crash occurred near the female’s home. She was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge where she was later pronounced deceased.
A 14-year-old female passenger on the side-by-side from Hopedale was treated for minor injuries at the scene then released to her parents.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Freeport Community Volunteer Fire Department, Bowerston Fire Department, Deersville Community Volunteer Fire Department, Moorefield Township Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Township Community Fire Department and Blackie’s Towing.
