Youngstown State could open branch at former EGCC Campus in Steubenville by spring

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Youngstown State University’s plan to expand into Jefferson County is moving ahead with a framework now in place to reopen the former Eastern Gateway Community College campus.

YSU President Bill Johnson said that after months of planning, the university is cautiously optimistic about offering classes at the Steubenville site as early as the spring semester. He noted the timeline depends on securing state funding needed to support the operation.

Eastern Gateway Community College shuttered its campuses nearly two years ago amid financial turmoil. Since then, many former EGCC students have transferred to YSU.

Johnson said the Steubenville campus could once again serve as an educational hub for Jefferson County and surrounding communities if funding falls into place.
