Fire at WVU Research Farm causes $1 million dollars in damages

CHARLESTON, W.V. – On Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Office of the Fire Marshal in Charleston, West Virginia stated that a fire occurred at the West Virginia University J.W. Ruby Research Farm near Reedsville, West Virginia in Preston County.

The fire occurred on December 13 at 12:50 p.m.


The State Fire Marshal says the fire is believed to have originated in a piece of equipment that was parked in one of the exterior stalls of the horse barn. The fire then spread to the barn causing an estimated $1 million dollars in damages.


The State Fire Marshal ruled the blaze accidental.

No livestock or persons were injured as a result of the fire.
