BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – At their Wednesday, June 4 meeting, the Belmont County Commissioners commended Jeff Felton, a longtime public servant and current leader of Belmont County Job and Family Services, for his contributions both locally and at the state level.
Felton was recently named President of the Ohio Job and Family Services Directors’ Association, a prominent role that places him at the forefront of statewide policy-making for public assistance and family support services.
“This is a huge leadership role,” said Commissioner J.P. Dutton. “Jeff is instrumental in shaping policies that directly impact not only our county, but agencies across the entire state.”
Felton was also recently awarded the John Fischer Service Award, named in honor of the former Licking County DJFS Director. The award recognizes four defining attributes: character, professional experience, communication skills, and personal commitment.
“He exceeds expectations in all four categories,” Dutton remarked. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have someone of his caliber leading our department.”
Commissioner Vince Gianangeli recalled Jeff’s longstanding service, beginning in 1987, including an incident involving Big Brothers Big Sisters where Jeff was credited for stepping in to support a family facing tragedy.
Beyond individual accolades, the meeting emphasized how Jeff’s leadership in the state association extends Belmont County’s influence to the state legislature, especially during budget sessions. His role ensures the county remains well-informed and proactive on matters that affect families, children, and vulnerable populations.
“I lost track of him for a couple of decades,” said Gianangeli. “But when I ran into him at a statewide meeting, it was clear he never stopped serving and leading.”
Felton highlighted the importance of collaboration, particularly the support provided by the Belmont County Board of Commissioners.
“We couldn’t do what we do without the Board’s support,” he said. “Many counties don’t have this level of engagement. Your backing is a critical part of our success.”
Felton previously served as the Director of Medina County DJFS.
