(WHTM) – The creators of the beloved “Air Bud” movie series are searching nationwide for the next four-legged basketball sensation — and your golden retriever could land the starring role.
Robert Vince, the mind behind the original 1997 hit, announced that for the first time ever, the franchise will hold open auditions for its upcoming 15th film, Air Bud Returns.
“We introduced the world to an incredible retriever called Air Bud,” Vince said. “Now we’re inviting everyone to show us their own star.”
The original Air Bud became a surprise family favorite, spawning multiple sequels and spin-offs that, despite moving to direct-to-video after the second film, have collectively earned over $220 million.
How to Audition
Producers are looking for purebred, athletic golden retrievers — especially those with a love for basketball. Audition videos (60–90 seconds) should feature the dog’s age, basic commands (“sit,” “stay,” “come”), and any unique tricks or basketball skills.
About ‘Air Bud Returns’
The new film will follow a 12-year-old aspiring basketball player who, after his father’s death, discovers a VHS copy of the original Air Bud. A chance meeting with a golden retriever named Buddy sparks a journey toward a championship — and a path to healing — alongside a team of misfits.
Set for theatrical release next summer, Air Bud Returns will be the first Air Bud movie to hit the big screen since 1998.
