Ohio State Representative Ron Ferguson has introduced a proposal to ensure local governments continue to receive funding if property taxes are ever abolished in the state.
Ferguson’s plan calls for maintaining Ohio’s current state sales tax but dedicating 20 percent of that revenue specifically to local government support.
The proposal comes amid growing discussion about potential efforts to eliminate property taxes in Ohio — a move that would significantly impact how schools, counties, and municipalities are funded.
Ferguson said his goal is to ensure communities do not face financial hardship if such a change occurs.
