STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Trinity Health System has earned the highest possible recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Maternity Care Access ratings, highlighting the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality maternity services in a region with limited options for expecting families.
The designation recognizes hospitals that demonstrate exceptional performance and access to maternity care, addressing the growing concern over so-called maternity care deserts across the United States. Trinity Health System’s Birth Center serves as a critical resource for families in the Ohio Valley who may otherwise have few nearby maternity care choices.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated hospitals using a range of data points reported by facilities, including C-section rates, unexpected newborn complications, vaginal birth after C-section rates, breastfeeding support and outcomes, episiotomy rates, adherence to federal “birthing-friendly” standards, and reporting on outcomes disparities.
Ave Ryan, manager of the Birth Center at Trinity Health System, said the recognition reflects the dedication of the entire care team to providing safe, compassionate, and evidence-based maternity care. She noted the designation underscores the hospital’s mission to ensure families feel supported and cared for throughout the birth experience.
Robert Martin, quality leader for the market, said the honor affirms the hospital’s ongoing focus on improving patient outcomes and follows Trinity Health System’s 2024 Perinatal Center of Excellence Gold Achievement within CommonSpirit Health.
U.S. News & World Report uses the maternity care access ratings as a decision-support tool for families while encouraging hospitals nationwide to continue improving maternal care. Hospital leaders say the recognition validates Trinity Health System’s continued efforts to deliver comprehensive, high-quality labor and delivery services to the community.
