WASHINGTON, D.C. — West Virginia Senator Jim Justice (R) is speaking out in support of female athletes, saying biological differences must be recognized to preserve fairness in girls’ and women’s sports.
Justice shared his stance following an appearance Tuesday outside the U.S. Supreme Court, where he addressed the issue as part of the national debate over participation in school athletics.
“I just spoke outside the Supreme Court as a fierce supporter of female athletes,” Justice wrote in a Facebook post. “Let me repeat it: biological males do not belong in girls’ sports. Period. I’ll keep fighting every day until our female athletes are guaranteed a fair playing field just as Title IX intended.”
Justice says his position is rooted not only in policy but also in personal experience. He coached girls’ basketball in West Virginia, an experience he has referenced in the past when discussing opportunities and protections for female athletes.
Justice, who previously served as West Virginia’s governor before being elected to the U.S. Senate, has aligned himself with Republican-led efforts to limit girls’ sports participation to biological females, arguing such measures uphold the original intent of Title IX and ensure competitive equity.
