WEIRTON, W.Va. — Authorities are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead inside a Weirton home Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Weirton Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on Grant Street at approximately 2:24 p.m. on July 14 to conduct a welfare check.
When officers arrived, they discovered 70-year-old Donna Barger deceased inside the home.
Police also found 69-year-old David Barger, the victim’s husband, inside the residence experiencing a medical emergency. He was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel before being flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for further treatment.
Weirton Police Chief Charlie Kush said an arrest warrant charging David Barger with first-degree murder has been issued.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the investigation, which remains active.
