Ohio Musical Instrument Maker Plans to Close Plant, Move Production Overseas

EASTLAKE, Ohio — Conn Selmer, a long-established manufacturer of band and orchestral instruments, has announced tentative plans to shut down its Eastlake, Ohio, plant and move production of several brass instruments overseas.

In a press release, the company said it is considering relocating the manufacturing of tubas, sousaphones, and French horns to international facilities. The Eastlake plant has been a longtime production site for the company and is known for manufacturing instruments used by schools, colleges, and professional musicians.

Conn Selmer said the plans are preliminary and subject to change, but the move would represent a significant shift away from domestic production for those instruments. The company did not provide a timeline for the potential closure or details on how many jobs could be affected.
