WHEELING, W.Va. — Police were called to the area of Mt. DeChantal Road and Washington Avenue Tuesday afternoon following reports of a group of individuals dressed in all black and wearing masks.
According to initial reports, the group was allegedly seen carrying flags and other items while standing along the roadside. A caller also claimed the individuals were shouting concerning phrases, prompting concern and a request for police to check the situation.
Authorities say the group reportedly exited a vehicle with out-of-state plates before heading toward the interstate area.
An officer arriving on scene reported approximately eight individuals present, some holding flags. Backup units were requested as a precaution.
At this time, officials indicated the individuals were being compliant with law enforcement. No immediate threats or injuries have been reported.
The situation remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the group’s identity or intent.
