Big Week for St. Clairsville: International Honors and Summer Hoops Return

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — It has been a big week for the St. Clairsville community as local students continue earning recognition both academically and athletically.

Leading the headlines, the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District Destination Imagination team earned international honors after finishing 4th out of 23 teams from around the world during global competition.

School officials praised the students for their strong performance and also announced the team captured 1st place in the competition’s Instant Challenge category. The accomplishment placed the group among the top young creative problem-solvers on the international stage while bringing recognition back to Belmont County.

Destination Imagination is a global academic program focused on teamwork, creativity, engineering, innovation, and problem-solving through competitive team-based challenges.

Meanwhile, the St. Clairsville Recreation Department is preparing for another active summer season with the announcement of its 2026 Summer Basketball League.

The league is scheduled to begin during the first week of June and is open to school teams only. Organizers say boys and girls varsity, junior varsity, middle school, and youth divisions will all participate throughout the summer.

Games will be played at the Rec Center, ECO, and St. Clairsville High School, with participating teams guaranteed at least eight games during the season.

Officials say the summer basketball league continues to provide athletes across the region opportunities to stay active, compete, improve skills during the offseason, and strengthen teamwork and community involvement.

Registration information is available through the St. Clairsville Recreation Department.
