MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — It was a big week for academics and athletics in the Ohio Valley as John Marshall High School celebrated success both on the baseball field and in the classroom.
Leading the headlines, the John Marshall Monarchs baseball team punched its ticket to the WVSSAC State Baseball Tournament after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Grafton in the Region 1 AAA Championship.
The Monarchs battled through a tight defensive contest and came through in clutch moments to secure the regional title and advance to the state tournament. Fans, students, and the Marshall County community celebrated the hard-fought win as the team now prepares to represent the Ohio Valley on the state stage.
The victory continues a strong tradition of athletics at John Marshall and adds another championship moment to the school’s proud sports history.
Meanwhile, John Marshall High School was also recognized statewide for excellence in education and student support.
WV PBIS recently announced its 2026 Tier 1 Model Schools, and John Marshall High School was among just 21 schools across West Virginia to earn the distinction.
The recognition comes after a rigorous evaluation process that included applications, interviews, data submissions, school tours, and follow-up reviews. The PBIS program focuses on creating positive learning environments, strong student support systems, and encouraging academic and behavioral success throughout schools.
School officials say the recognition reflects the dedication of teachers, staff, administrators, students, and families working together to build a supportive culture both inside and outside the classroom.
From championship baseball to statewide academic recognition, it has been a memorable week for the Monarchs and the Marshall County school community.
