The Ohio Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday filed an emergency court order in Harrison County Common Pleas Court seeking to force the Village of Harrisville to repair a failing wastewater treatment system.
According to the filing, untreated sewage has been discharging into Sloan Run and flowing down a hillside near a local baseball field.
State officials say the wastewater treatment plant has operated without oversight since March. The filing also notes that the village council has resigned and that the mayor currently lives outside village limits.
The Attorney General’s office is requesting immediate court intervention to address the environmental and public health concerns.
