WHEELING, W.Va. — Police responded to a report of a gunshot being fired Sunday afternoon in Wheeling’s Woodsdale area and spent several hours gathering evidence and searching for a suspect vehicle.
According to emergency communications, the incident was reported around 12:40 p.m. near Race Avenue, which is located off Edgington Lane. A caller told authorities that a man allegedly fired a shot into the air before leaving the area in a red sedan.
Investigators were advised that the vehicle may have displayed out-of-state license plates from either Mississippi or Missouri. The caller also described the driver as having longer hair and possibly being Hispanic.
Officers canvassed the area looking for vehicles matching the description while reviewing potential surveillance footage. Radio traffic indicated investigators were checking nearby security cameras and doorbell camera systems for additional evidence.
Police also noted that cameras in the Frederick Street area could help track the vehicle’s movements if it traveled through the neighborhood.
By early afternoon, officers reported obtaining footage that could assist with the investigation.
No injuries were reported, and no arrests had been announced as of Sunday afternoon. The investigation remains ongoing.
