Potential Downtown Brewery Project Discussed by Steubenville Council

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — A potential brewery project could bring new development to downtown Steubenville, according to information shared during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

City Manager Mike Johnson told council members that a prospective investor recently visited the city and expressed interest in several properties near the corner of Fourth and Market streets.

Preliminary plans discussed would include converting the Rooney’s Building into a brewery while redeveloping nearby properties into a production and distribution facility for craft beer. The proposal also includes a courtyard area and a private access route for delivery and distribution vehicles.

Officials emphasized that the project remains in the early stages and no approvals have been granted.

Because several of the properties involved are considered historic structures, any redevelopment plans would likely require additional review before moving forward.

City leaders say discussions with the developer are ongoing as the proposal continues to be evaluated.
