Waynesburg Man Dies in Three-Vehicle Crash in Carroll County

BROWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 70-year-old Waynesburg man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Carroll County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Investigators said the crash happened when a westbound vehicle driven by Ronald R. Romano III, 31, of Malvern, attempted to pass a truck on the roadway.

Troopers said Romano crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle driven by Lee D. Meadows, 70, of Waynesburg.

The truck, driven by Cole Kneeper, 34, of Malvern, was then struck by the two vehicles before leaving the roadway and traveling off the north side of the road. One of the passenger vehicles overturned and came to rest on its roof.

Meadows was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner’s Office. Authorities said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in Romano’s vehicle, Emily N. Meadows, 39, of Malvern, was taken to Aultman Hospital for treatment. Investigators said it is unknown whether she was wearing a seat belt.

Kneeper suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt.

Romano was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle during the collision. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Investigators are also working to determine whether impairment played a role.

The crash remains under investigation.
