MIDVALE, Ohio — A man was taken into custody Saturday after a SWAT response to a home in Midvale where authorities say he made threats of violence and self-harm.
According to the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched after receiving a report about an intoxicated man who was allegedly making concerning statements. Deputies initially responded to check on his welfare before requesting assistance from the county’s SWAT team.
As the situation unfolded, a Reverse 911 alert was issued asking nearby residents to shelter in place while authorities attempted to safely resolve the incident.
Officials said the man did not respond to repeated cellphone calls or announcements made over a public address system directing him to exit the home. After receiving no response, the SWAT team breached the residence and deployed a flashbang device in an effort to gain contact.
A drone was then used to locate the man inside the home. Authorities said a firearm was recovered, and the suspect was taken into custody without resistance.
The sheriff’s office reported that no force was used during the arrest. The man was transported to the Tuscarawas County Jail, where he is being held while numerous felony and misdemeanor charges are pending.
