WEIRTON, W.Va. — A group of motorcycle riders in Weirton took to the road Sunday to raise money for a program that provides service dogs to veterans at no cost.
The Northern Panhandle American Legion Riders Post 10 organized a ride spanning more than 100 miles to benefit Train a Dog Save a Warrior, also known as TADSAW.
The program provides medical alert service dog training for veterans, including those living with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.
According to Charlie Pollan, vice commander of American Legion Post 10, money raised through the effort helps cover the cost of the dogs and their training. Pollan said funds raised locally remain within the district.
Organizers reported that approximately $15,000 to $16,000 had already been raised as of Sunday, with hopes that the total could approach $20,000 by the end of the event.
The Northern Panhandle American Legion Riders group was established in November 2025 and has since participated in several community fundraising efforts.
The project is part of a broader effort involving members of the American Legion, American Legion Riders, Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion to support veterans in the region.
TADSAW’s mission is to provide service dog training to wounded veterans at no cost to veterans or their families, with the goal of helping participants gain additional support and independence in their daily lives.
